A secure Data Centre is essential for business continuity. Businesses rely on their information systems to run their operations. However what happens if the data centre you use is broken in to? A robbery can be potentially devastating to companies using the data centre.

There have been numerous data centre break-ins and thefts across the globe and more specifically London. We’ve listed a few of the major London breaks-ins that have occurred over the past couple of years. These break-ins are a result of less than perfect physical security.

• Earlier this summer a Watford data centre lost its customers websites after thieves stole essential equipment
• During the spring the servers hosting Peter Gabriel’s website were stolen from their ISPs data centre
• In December 2007 one of the most audacious break-ins happened to a Kings Cross data centre.  The thieves impersonated policemen, tied up security guards and stole over £2 million worth of equipment.
• November, 2006: Several router cards were stolen from a data centre facility in London, interrupting service for several major customers.
• October, 2006: Equipment is stolen from another London based data centre. The thieves were not challenged because they apparently had valid swipe cards to access the facility.

The Bunker has been delivering ultra* secure data centre and managed services for over 10 years. The 18-acre site is surrounded by a 3 meter high barbed wire perimeter fence. The underground data centre is an ex-MoD nuclear bunker encased in three metres thick reinforced concrete walls. The only entrance is through a security check point, protected by bullet proof glass and electronic barriers.  Alongside this physical security The Bunker has an on site security team made up of ex-military and police supported by guard dogs who together patrol the facility 24×7x365.

Not only is the data centre impregnable, The Bunker goes a step further to ensure the security of the site. All visitors must be booked in at least 24 hours in advance and bring photographic id with them. Once on site CCTV covers your every move and provides a real-time record of everything happening in the bunker.
