The Bunker announce plans to invest £12m in expanding its existing Ultra Secure Facility and the opening of its third Carrier Neutral Newbury Data Centre

The Bunker Secure Hosting Ltd, provider of Ultra* Secure Carrier Neutral Data Centres and Managed Services is delighted to announce it has successfully acquired additional power for its data centre facility in Newbury. A proportion of the additional power has been allocated to the existing site to fulfil the back log of demand for standard collocation space and to provide sufficient power for in demand high density areas.
The balance of the power has been designated to the new data centre facility which has recently received planning permission. The new Data Centre facility is to be built on the same site adjacent to the existing facility. Simon Neal, Director of Data Centre Services at The Bunker commented. “Following months of hard work we are thrilled with these recent developments at Newbury. The multiple connectivity providers, extra power capability and planning permission are a testament to our continued commitment to our Newbury facility. As London continues to run out of power, our out-of-London location and increased power makes The Bunker an obvious choice for organisations requiring carrier neutral high power, ultra secure colocation within the M4 corridor”.
The Bunker in Newbury is renowned as the most secure Data Centre within the M4 corridor. Prior to becoming a Business Park, New Greenham Park was used by the US Military Air base during the Cold War. The site was used as a command and control centre by the American Air Force and reportedly had a direct telephone link to the White House. The control centre housed vast quantities of electronic equipment and data all of which needed to be protected from potential electromagnetic pulses (EMP).
In 2004 The Bunker acquired the Nuclear Bunker and upgraded the Data Centre to suit modern day needs. As you would expect from an ex military nuclear bunker the site is protected by 1.5 meter thick reinforced concrete walls, blast proof steel doors, military EMP and Tempest shielding.
