Network Engineer
Location: Nr Sandwich, Kent and Newbury, Berkshire, UK
Salary: Depending on experience.
Requirements:
Knowledge and significant experience of managing at least one of the following environments:
- Foundry
- Juniper
- Cisco
This position is very much hands on and will require network design and planning skills to build on our existing fault-tolerant network. Experience of leading projects as well as day-to-day operation is essential.
You will have good practical experience in most of the following technologies:
- Routing: OSPF, BGP4
- LAN: STP/RSTP, MRP, VLANs, 802.1q
- WAN: SDH, DWDM, MPLS
- Structured Cabling Systems
- QoS: Traffic Policing, Traffic Classes, Rate Limiting ? Cryptography: SSH,
- OpenVPN, IPsec, X509 ? Hardware: Foundry ServerIron/FastIron/NetIron, Cisco
- routers & switches, Juniper Netscreen products, Juniper routers.
- RIPE: Ideally RIPE trained, but strong understanding of RIPE processes and
- policies with practical experience of the RIPE database.
- Monitoring: Nagios, Big Brother, MRTG, Cricket, Cacti, RRD, Flow, sFlow,
- SNMP
- VoIP and PABX systems
- Practical experience of Linux/FreeBSD or similar would be an advantage
Good verbal and written communication skills: you will be expected to interact with internal and external customers from the very start.
English fluency is essential.
The ability to be self-motivated and manage projects and workload effectively. A willingness to get stuck in, and to help and co-operate with the rest of the team is essential. Excellent fault finding and rectification skills essential. Experience of managing 3rd party suppliers and partnerships including peering arrangements, circuit deliveries, equipment procurement and support.
