The Bunker build managed firewalls using either OpenBSD with PF on an Intel platform or Cisco ASA Devices. Both these solutions are capable of handling packet filtering at Gigabit network speeds and can cope with the amount of cryptography required to provide multiple VPN connections at available bandwidth speeds. The firewall software used, in building our own unique OpenBSD firewalls, is the native ‘PF’ (Packet Filter) firewall provided as a standard part of OpenBSD. This has the capability to filter packets based on any Ethernet or TCP/IP packet headers, on a par with the leading brands.
All forms of Network Address Translation and packet based redirection are available, although it is our usual practice to provide a routable subnet for the clients servers. By default The Bunker configure firewalls to drop incoming and outgoing spoofed packets (i.e. falsely claiming to originate from particular networks contrary to the routing information known to the firewall) by default, although this behaviour can be permitted where required.
