GDPR legislation is fast approaching businesses, and, with less than 12 months to go, it is more important than ever that businesses begin to change their views on Data Protection, Data Storage and Data Accessibility.
The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) will introduce new legal obligations for businesses that collect, store, and share personal information. This poses many new challenges to businesses as some of these rules will include how long a company has to declare a Data Breach, as well as requiring businesses to take a look at their Data Management standards. As a result of this businesses will need to revise processes around Data accessibility, Data retention and the ability to remove personal data, with the aim to become compliant under stricter Data Protection rules
Businesses that find themselves ignoring the GDPR legislation could find themselves facing heavy fines for non-compliance, with these reaching €20 million, or 4% of their global turnover, whichever of these figures is greater. Businesses will also only have 72 hours to disclose a data breach, or 30 days to erase a customer’s data if they invoke their “Right to be forgotten”. It is imperative businesses begin looking toward Cloud-based solutions over traditional systems to get them ready for GDPR compliance.
